Jane "Jayne" (Gonter) Baum, 99, recently of Huron and formerly of Sandusky, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at The Meadows at Osborn Park.

She was born Dec. 4, 1923, in Shanesville, and graduated from Sugarcreek-Shanesville High School in 1941. She attended Canton Actual Business College and worked for OPS in Elyria.

In 1944, she entered Cook County School of Nursing in Chicago, graduating in 1947. She worked at Hines Veteran's Hospital in Chicago and U.S. Marine Hospital in Cleveland before moving to Sandusky, where she worked at Good Samaritan hospital for 18 years.

Jayne is survived by her daughter, Barbara of Huron; son, Ken (Ginger) of Fulshear, Texas; grandson, Kyle (Natalen) of Austin, Texas; granddaughter, Mallory (Jeffrey) Lousteau of Houston, Texas; and two great-granddaughters.

Jayne was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lydia Gonter; husband of 55 years, Robert; and sister, Ellen.

Cremation will take place and services will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Back to the Wild or one's favorite charity.

Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is handling arrangements.

I worked with Jane at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was so nice to work with, and of course a lot of joking. She will be missed.
