James C. "Jim" Spettle

James C. "Jim" Spettle, 87, of Norwalk, passed away Monday evening, Oct. 24, 2022, at Norwalk Memorial Home.

Jim was born Nov. 22, 1934, in Norwalk, to the late Carl and Marguerite (Champion) Spettle. He was an accomplished athlete and graduated from Norwalk High School. Jim served his country as a member of U.S. Army. He retired from Huron County Highway Department in his late 50s and was a groundskeeper at Sycamore Hills Golf Course in his retirement years. Jim was a huge sports fan. He played fast-pitch softball for Norwalk, Fremont, and Ashland. Jim was also an avid golfer. He also enjoyed watching the sporting events of his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by five children, James (Melissa) Spettle of Norwalk, Daniel (Kathy) Spettle of Norwalk, David Spettle of Norwalk, Debra (Craig) Moffit of Norwalk, and Jill (Bryan) Stone of Wellington; grandchildren, Brett (Ashley) Sawyer, Melissa (Marshae) Sawyer-Grair, Brian (Rachel) Preston, Erin (Jason) Johnson, Ashley (Brent) Thompson, Angela (Kevin) Guth, Amanda (John) Voelske, Hannah (Jeremy) Rogers, Jake (Joy) Spettle, and Marcus Clark; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Jeanne) Spettle of Norwalk; sister, Joann (John) Skachenko of Michigan; numerous nieces an nephews; and friend, Maryanna Shaw.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his spouse, Barbara (Brown) Spettle, who passed in 2018; and sister, Judy Spettle.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, until the time of Jim's funeral at 11 a.m. at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, 44857.
