James Rose Obituary

James "Jim" Rose

Sep 19, 2025

Willard

James "Jim" Rose, 69, passed away from a heart attack Friday, September 19, 2025. He was born September 16, 1956, in Norwalk to Donald and Mary Rose. He was a 1974 graduate of Willard High School. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served for over four years as an MP. He then joined Willard Police Department in 1979. After six years, he joined Huron County Sheriff's Office as chief deputy. After three years, he moved to Delaware, Ohio, as a patrol officer with Delaware Police Dept. After 16 years, he retired as a captain. A year later, he became manager of Court Security for Ohio Supreme Court. In 2011, he left the Supreme Court to be the Chief of Police in Milan, Ohio. In 2013, he became deputy chief of Perrysburg Police Department. In 2021, Jim and Teresa decided to move back to Willard to be near family and truly retire. That lasted until 2023, when he decided retirement wasn't for him and joined Ohio State Security. In 2024, he was approached by Event Risk Security Company to be VP of Compliance, where he remained until his untimely death.

Jim was an avid motorcyclist and a member of Blue Knights of Ohio Motorcycle Club. He participated in the C.O.P.S. run of Ohio activities during Police Week. An organization that assists families of fallen officers. Jim was also one of the original members of the Delaware Tactical Unit. A multi-jurisdictional SWAT team where he served as a team leader.

This past summer, Jim completed his lifelong quest to ride his motorcycle in all 50 states, culminating in a three-week trip to Alaska via British Columbia and the Alaska Highway. He also achieved the 1,000-mile iron butt award in 24 hours. His favorite things in life were taking curves on winding roads and spending time with his grandchildren, teaching them to shoot, paint, and giving motorcycle rides.

Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, Teresa Tuttle Rose; his children, Eric and Carey Rose and Jennifer and Ryley Fenton; grandchildren, Kourtney (Adam) Shumaker, Britney (Jacob) Buckmaster, Destiney Rose, Harmony Rose, Asher "AJ" Rose, Aubrey Fenton, Savannah Fenton, and Sterling "SJ" Fenton; great-grandchild, Ivy Buckmaster; siblings, John (Audrey) Rose, Mary (Denny) Rees, Richard (Diana Giffin) Rose, Barb (Jerry) Eitle and Carol (Ed) Kelsey; brother-in-law, Terry (Bobbie) Tuttle; sisters-in-law, Janet (Bob) Hawblitz and Celia (Charlie) Warren; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur and Lillian Tuttle; and brother-in-law, Denzil Tuttle.

Calling hours will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Secor Funeral Home in Willard. Jim's Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 25, 2025, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Willard, with the Rev. Eric Mueller officiating.

Yesterday

The only thing that truly needs to be said is that Jim was a good man. I hadn't known him very long, just about a year, and we truly didn't interact regularly but for the last four months. I can truly say however, that Jim became more than just someone I worked with. He was a friend. We would talk daily, mostly not work related. Sometimes about family, philosophy, or just the things we had going. He was a kind person and someone who had an impact on the lives of many people. He will truly be missed by me and I pray for him and his family whom he truly loved.

Yesterday

Last year, at our 50th class reunion, Jim brought a bottle of whisky (Crown Royal?), but wouldn't let us open it. He had us all sign it, and said we would open it at our next reunion, and raise a glass to the classmates we lost. I guess we'll be raising it for you, Jim. I won't wait. I'm raising one to you today. Here's to all the great rides we had, since those first bikes in High School. and Here's to the hope that we'll ride together again someday over the sunset, where the riding is always good.
