James W. Filip, 77, of Norwalk, passed away Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, at Fisher-Titus Medical Center.
He was born April 24, 1946, in Norwalk, to George and Marian (Dugas) Filip. He was a 1964 graduate of Norwalk High School, attended Kemper Military School, and served in U.S. Army while being stationed in Vietnam, Japan, and Fayetteville, North Carolina. Upon leaving the military, he worked in the family business, Filip's Water Conditioning, in Norwalk. He also worked at Valley trucking and Culligan Water Systems for over 40 years. He was an avid NASCAR fan for all that he knew and enjoyed cooking, BBQ, golfing, casinos, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his brother, Keith Filip of Lakewood; children, Stacy (Robert) Lamb of Shelby, Tara (Mark) Parker of Louisville, Kentucky, and Meaghan (Mark) Sapon of Zion Crossing, Virginia; Brad (Karen Collingwood) Winkle of Wakeman, and Shannon Winkle of Norwalk; longtime love of his life, Cathy Hauser of Norwalk; grandchildren, Ashley McNeil, Konnar Lamb, Alexis Cain, Mason Sapon, Landon Sapon, and Hudson Sapon; great-grandchildren, Regan and Harper McNeil; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Brandon Filip.
Visitation for friends and family will be 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, at Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. Private interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to DAV Chapter #62, 87 Woodlawn Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio, 44857.

Although we only met Jim once, we know how much he meant to you, Cathy. He lived a very full and active life, and the two of you shared many happy memories and adventures. We know that you'll be grieving for a very long time, but know that you always have good friends to share your thoughts with.
