Helen I. Salyer, 88, of Willard, died Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Firelands Hospital in Sandusky. She was born to the late James and Pearl (Parker) Blevins. Mrs. Salyer was employed at several places during her lifetime, including Pioneer Balloon and Big Plus. Her favorite was becoming a matron at the Willard Elementary School, where she affectionately became known as "Grandma" to the students. After retirement, she volunteered for the Salvation Army, cooking for as many as 200 children a day.

She enjoyed raising flowers, sewing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. A sure way to bring a smile to her face was to bring her chocolates. She faithfully attended church services and was a soloist in her younger days.

Mrs. Salyer married Leland Salyer Sr. September 5, 1953. They were married for 65 years before his passing in 2020. She is survived by her four children, Terry Salyer of Willard, Leland Salyer Jr (Kathy), of Lewiston, Idaho, Patty Salyer of Willard and Sherry (Terry) Patterson of Willard; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter-in-law; seven brothers; and five sisters.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until time of the service at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Victory Temple Church of God, 4118 St Rt 103 S, (Celeryville) Willard, OH 44890. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Willard.
