Gerald Weyer Obituary

Gerald Joseph "Jerry" Weyer

Aug 4, 1943 - May 15, 2025

Huron

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry Weyer, who departed this life Thursday, May 15, 2025. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Jerry touched the lives of many with his warmth, dedication, and enduring love for his family and community.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of 59 years. His sons, Jay Weyer (Lori) of Kettering and Tim Weyer (Kim) of Huron; his grandchildren, Zachary, Kayla, and Brandon Weyer; and stepgrandchildren, Ally and Camryn Liming. He also leaves behind his sister, Judy Hippler; his brother, Jack Weyer (Carol); sister-in-law, Sherry Weyer; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Cletis N. Weyer and Ruth K. Mesenburg; his brother, James Weyer; sister, Joanne Moyer; and brothers-in-law, Robert Hippler and Larry Moyer.

A 1961 graduate from Margaretta High School and a 1967 graduate from Ashland College with a bachelor of science in education, Jerry was passionate about teaching and athletics. He began his career as an educator and coach at Smithville and Mapleton High Schools, where he taught for five years and coached track, basketball, and golf. In 2007, his dedication was recognized with induction into Margaretta Athletic Hall of Fame.

Beyond education, Jerry had a long and diverse career. He worked as a Pinkerton Security Guard at the Masters Tournament, combining his love for golf with his professional life. He later retired from Ford Motor Company, having served at both Lorain and Avon Assembly Plants. After retirement, he even explored golf course architecture, reflecting a lifelong devotion to the game he loved.

Jerry was known for his kind spirit, love of sports, and unwavering commitment to those around him. He will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church in Huron, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to Stein Hospice, Huron Rescue Squad, or Margaretta Athletic Boosters.

Arrangements are entrusted to Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, Huron.

Jerry was the kind of person who made everyone feel welcome. They visited us in Missouri and later in Alabama. We always had a great time together. I stayed at their home when I came back for high school reunions . I have many wonderful memories of time with Jerry and Betty. He will be missed by all and remembered by many. My deepest sympathy to Betty and all the family.
