Gerald "Jerry" Byrd, 73, of Florence Township, Berlin Heights, passed away Sunday Sept. 3, 2023, at UH Elyria Medical Center.
He was born May 11, 1950, in Sandusky, to Carless and Evelyn (Loudermilk) Byrd.
Jerry went to Vermilion High School, then joined the Marines, and served during The Vietnam War. He spent most of his career in construction and was the owner of J & S Concrete for many years until his retirement.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda (Klonk) Byrd, whom he married Nov. 30, 2003; son, Jared (Susan) Byrd; son, Tony (Ashley) Smerk; daughter, Cari Smerk; sister, Sue (Rob Shuck) Born; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeremy Byrd in 2015; sisters, Jeanne Shafer and Shirley Schofield; and brother, Carl Byrd.
Private services are being arranged. Cremation has taken place.
Toft Funeral Home, Wakeman Chapel, 16 Cooper St., is handling arrangements.
