Clyde

Edward E. McKenzie, 97, residing in Clyde, passed away peacefully Friday morning, May 16, 2025, in his home.

Edward was born February 20, 1928, in Bellevue, to the late Ezra McKenzie and Bertha (Davis) Orwig.

Edward was a veteran of the United States Navy who proudly served his country from 1945 to 1949. He married his late wife Dorothy on May 17, 1947, and will be celebrating what would have been their 78th wedding anniversary in heaven. He retired from New Departure in Sandusky. Edward enjoyed traveling with Dorothy. They lived in Arizona for several years before they moved back to Ohio. He loved laughing and joking with his grandchildren. He enjoyed sharing his music with the whole family. He had a special place in his heart for his little great-great-granddaughter.

Edward is survived by his two daughters, MaryAnn (Norm) Schenck of Michigan and Lori (James) Vassallo of Tiffin; and his son, Steven McKenzie of Sandusky; seven grandchildren, Richard Brightman of California, James Brightman of Michigan, Gregory Richter of Ohio, Steven Brightman of Arizona, Kevin Richter of Ohio, Breigh Soles of Idaho, and Jonathan Brightman of Michigan; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one on the way; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Edward is preceded in death by wife, Dorothy M. (Didion) McKenzie, in 2017. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth "Bud" McKenzie; and two sisters, Violet Burke and Charlotte Forney.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday May 21, 2025, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Chapel Mausoleum at Meadow Green Memorial Park, 2602 Bogart Road, Huron, with Pastor Wally Gilbert presiding.
