Donald A. Nickels, 83, of Milan, passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, at Gaymont Nursing Home.
He was born Sept. 15, 1941, in Norwalk to Russell and Ruth (Runkel) Nickels.
Donald graduated from Milan High School and The Ohio State University. Don and his father farmed a 200-acre vegetable farm in Milan. He married the love of his life in 1964. Earlier in life, he taught Vocational Agriculture at Milan High School and then became the Farm Management instructor at EHOVE. He built and operated Nickels Cycle Ranch, Nickels Satellite TV and Milamar Ranch Rental Community prior to his retirement. He was a 58-year member of the Norwalk Eagles as well as a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Don loved life and his family. They spent their semi-retirement years traveling the world with family and friends. In 2020 they returned home to Milan.
Donald is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Horner) Nickels. He is also survived by his daughters, Lisa (William) Taylor of Sandusky and Juliet Nickels of Elyria; sons Andrew (Linda) Nickels of South Amherst and Jeffrey Nickels of Milan; grandsons William (Mary) Taylor and Christopher Fox; granddaughters Jasmine Taylor, Erin Burgert, Sara (Tyler) Biglin and Michala Nickels; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his brother, Russell A. Nickels; and stepmother, Geraldine Nickels.
Visitation will be from 10-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 130 S. Main Street, Milan. His funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m.
