Dennis F. Mesenburg, 85, of Sandusky, passed away Wednesday evening, January 21, 2026, at Providence Care Center, Sandusky, under the care of Stein Hospice, after a year-long bout from a stroke.
He was the son of Paul A. and Doris (Long) Mesenburg, born at Providence Hospital in Sandusky. As a teenager, he was an accomplished saxophone player. He played in several bands, and the Mesenburg Family band opened for Ricky Nelson at the Ohio State Fair.
Dennis was a 1958 graduate of Margaretta High School and earned a State Farmer Degree while there. After graduating from The Ohio State University and being a proud member of the AGR fraternity, he entered the Ohio National Guard, including the Officer's Training School.
He married Rose Faber, December 5, 1970, and soon after settled on the Mesenburg 1850's Homestead, where he began his life as a farmer, which he loved as his life's work.
He served on many boards, including the Central Erie Board of Directors; Supervision on the Erie County Soil and Water Board, serving as chairman; the Ohio Soybean Association Board, serving as president; and the National Soybean Council, helping to found it, and the American Soybean Association National Board, serving for 9 years. During those years, he participated in a Trade Mission to Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea on behalf of soybean growers, as well as one to Mexico. Locally, he was one of the first to farm No-Till crops, soybeans, and corn, continuing that practice until retirement in 2024.
Dennis was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky, Sandusky Yacht Club, Elks Lodge 285, Farm Bureau Advisory Council (Town and County Planters), and Ohio Soybean Association. He loved to travel, especially being a "snowbird" in Tucson, Arizona, in the winter.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rose (Faber) Mesenburg; son, Josh Mesenburg; grandchildren, Macie and Drew; brother, Joe (Karen) Mesenburg; sister-in-law, Lisa Faber; brothers-in-law, Larry (Bonnie) Faber, and Dennis (Beverly) Faber; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his stillborn daughter; parents; brother, Paul "Jack"; wife, Gloria (Leser) Mesenburg; and brother-in-law, David.
