Debra Jean (McClellan) Oehling, 71, Berlin Heights, passed to her eternal home Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, at her residence.

Debra, also known to many people as Deb, was born to the late Dwight F. McClellan and Dolores J. (Gillespie) McClellan Oct. 8, 1952 in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. She married her late husband, Michael C. Oehling March 5, 1977.

Debra was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Berlin Heights for 23 years and then Florence Congregational Church for 15 years.

Debra was a nurse for 42 years and a lifelong learner. She graduated from Washington School of Nursing, Washington, Pennslyvania in 1973 with a nursing certificate. She continued her education at University of Phoenix where she first graduated as a registered nurse (RN) and then earned a bachelor of science of nursing (BSN) in 1998. She then attended Findlay University graduating in 2010 with a master of science, ennvironment, health, and safety management.

Debra worked in many different areas of nursing and was proud to be a mentor and educator of nurses throughout her career.

She was a 30-plus-year member of Ohio Nurses Association and American Nurses Association. During her 42-year career, she began at Ohio State University Hospital, Sandusky Memorial Hospital, Phoenix General Hospital, Sandusky School of Practical Nursing, Erie County Health Department, Firelands Community Hospital, and Firelands Regional Medical Center and ended her career at Fisher Titus Medical Center.

Deb was also a member of Berlin Heights Township Fire Debs for over 20 years and Order of Eastern Star, Althea Chapter #438 for over 25 years.

Debra is survived by her caregiver and sister, Diane McClellan, who has lived with her since 2018; sons, Michael C. (Tevon) Oehling II and Shane F Oehling; her special grandson, Reese M. Oehling; her very close friends, Melvin and Barbara Kramer, Cindy Kramer (Brian Ogilvy), Andrew Kramer and Nancy Kramer; and her dear friend, Kirsten Hargreaves.

Debra was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two male infant sons; her nephew, Daniel M. DeLuigi; her in-laws, Burt and Esther Oehling; sister-in-law and brother-in -law Rex and Alice Bristol and sister-in-law Gretchen Robinson.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, at Toft Funeral Home, Hinman Chapel, 38 South St., Berlin Heights. Friends may also call from 11 A.M. until time of funeral services at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, at the funeral home. The Rev. Kelly Clemons and the Rev. Mel Saylor will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date at Riverside Cemetery, Berlin Heights.
