Norwalk

David D. Horner, 77, of Norwalk, passed away Friday morning, March 14, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born December 15, 1947, in Washington, Pennsylvania, to the late Ralph G. and Effie (Hawkins) Horner. At the age of nine, Dave moved to his beloved Huron, Ohio, and graduated from Huron High School in 1965. Dave attended The Ohio State University for one year before he served in the US Army from 1967 to 1970, which included a tour in Vietnam as a Door Gunner with the A Company, 101st Aviation Battalion, and 101st Airbourne Division. Following the Army in 1973, he met and then married his lovely wife, Marilyn, and raised two wonderful children, T.J. Horner (Joey) Thomas and David Shane Horner. He worked for Caroox MFG, Saginaw Wire and nine years as a welder at American Ship Building. He then retired after 30 years of service at Norwalk Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, woodworking, fishing, golfing, coaching around 10 years with Lefty Grove Baseball and followed The Buckeyes, Cavs, Browns and Guardians. He was a lifetime member of Norwalk VFW Post 2743.

Dave was proud of his five granddaughters, MacKensey Thomas, Delaney Thomas, Joscey Thomas, Mascie Horner, and Emmie Horner, whom he loved so much. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Phyllis Nickles; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James (Angela) Horner; brother-in-law, Don Nickles; father and mother-in-law, Jack and Jane Koehn; niece, Cynthia (Kane) Durfy; nephews, Jimmy (Cindy) Horner and Joey Horner.
