Danny Rood Obituary

Danny Lee Rood

May 2, 1950 - Dec 18, 2025

Norwalk

Dan Rood passed away peacefully Thursday, December 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born May 2, 1950, to Manuel (Frank) and Mary Rood, Dan lived a life marked by creativity, deep integrity, and unwavering devotion to the people and community he loved.

He spent his life showing up for others, with strength, humility, and a sense of humor that never faded. He left his mark on everyone who knew him. He worked hard, laughed often, and loved deeply.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bud Whaley and Bill Whaley; and his parents-in-law, Herman and Marian (Strimpfel) Weisenberger.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon (Weisenberger) Rood; sons, Trevor (Jackie Hug) Rood of Norwalk and Keaton (Jessica) Rood of Sandusky; daughter, Tricia Hoover of Norwalk; six grandchildren, Anastin, Frankie, Lilah, Julian, Selah, and Sonny; sister, Maryanna Shaw of Norwalk; and in-laws, Joyce (Larry) Orechia, Richard (Anna) Weisenberger, Joanne (Gary) Myers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dan retired from Ohio Edison after a long career of dedicated service.

Dan believed deeply in preserving history, not just so we wouldn't repeat it, but because he took pride in remembering where we came from. He served as a past president and board member of Firelands Historical Society, played a key role in Norwalk's bicentennial planning, served on many uptown committees, and was involved in the development of the Veterans Memorial on Shady Lane.

In retirement, Dan enjoyed helping with his kids' endeavors, spending time with his grandchildren, doing anything and everything with his wife, a good glass of bourbon, supporting his community by patrolling the parks, and keeping uptown parking available for patrons of the town he cherished. (He likely holds the Norwalk record for most parking tickets given with a smile.)

A gifted bass player, Dan's love of music was just another way he brought people together, quietly holding the rhythm while letting others shine.

He was the kind of guy who could fix anything, talk to anyone, and leave you laughing, all at the same time.

A Celebration of Life will be from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Milestone Event Center, 11 South Prospect Street, Norwalk, OH 44857.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Firelands Historical Society in Dan's honor.

Dan showed us all how to love, how to serve, and how to live well. His legacy will carry on in the hearts of those who knew him, and in the family he loved so dearly.

My wife, Lori, and I are so sorry to hear of Dan's passing.
He was a kind, honest and truly honorable man with a great sense of humor. I remember back in high school when he was part of the local rock 'n' roll crowd and he ran the light show for my band, The Silver String Band, at the old Rec Center. What fun for everyone, except the goldfish (inside joke)!
Seriously, we send our prayers for comfort and strength to Sharon, his family and all who loved him. Godspeed, Dan. See you on the other shore...

My heart goes out to Dan's family and friends at this difficult time. Dan left this little corner of the world better than he found it. Rest In Peace, Dan

Dan was a good friend, band mate and groomsman in our wedding. We met in our early teens sharing our joy and enthusiasm for music along with John Waite. I thank Dan for the hours we spent together creating lasting memories. Dan was artistic, inquisitive, intelligent, hard-working, witty and always a gentleman. An honor to have known him. I will forever hold Dan close in my heart. Sincere condolences to Sharon and family.
