Chester Lee Fairchild, 76, Wakeman, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, in Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain.
He was born June 6, 1946, living his whole life in Wakeman, Ohio. Chet was an outstanding athlete graduating from Western Reserve high school in 1965
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1967 through 69 and served on the DMZ in Korea as a tank crew operator. Soon after, he married the love of his life Pamela.
Chet was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who would and did anything for his family, including his four-legged best friend, Maddy.
While working 42 years at Ford Motor Company supporting his family, he was passionately involved in all aspects of his children and grandchildren's lives.
Through the years, Chet spent time following OSU football with his family and being a proud Western Reserve basketball fan and historian. He also took pride in taking care of his yard after coming home from his morning coffee at Sterks.
People also know Chet for not only coaching many youth sports teams but also founding PeeWee basketball and T-ball in Collins, Ohio, and developing the youth flag football in Wakeman, Ohio, all while presiding over the local Little League. Chet was a high school basketball official for many years, encouraging others to work in this field.
Chet is survived by his wife Pamela; three sons, Chad (Daria) Fairchild, Shane (Janna) Fairchild, and Tylor Fairchild; two daughters, Meggan Fairchild, and Brooke (Alexandru) Ceres; eight grandchildren, Angelina, Tanner, Lilly, Taylor, Max, Anya, Sophie, and Luke; a sister, Midge Skiver; many nieces and nephews.
Chet was preceded by his parents, Burdell and Ester (Beam) Fairchild; two brothers, Fred, Dale, and Harold Dean; two sisters, Virginia and Gladys; and his dog, Maddy.
All those wishing to celebrate Chet's life are welcome to join us 2-4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2022, at Toft Funeral Home, Wakeman Chapel, 16 Cooper St., Wakeman, OH 44889. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Wakeman Cemetery.
