Charles Troike Obituary

Charles G. Troike

May 26, 1936 - Jun 18, 2023

Punta Gorda, FL

On Father's Day, June 18, 2023, Charles G. Troike, who resided in Punta Gorda, Florida, went to meet his father and passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Jacksonville, Florida.

He was born May 26, 1936, in Sandusky, to Gilbert and Alma (Ohlemacher) Troike.

He served in U.S. Navy Submarine Service from 1956-1960. He was employed in the corrugated paper industry as a designer and salesman for 40 years. He was an avid boater, fisherman, and charter captain.

Those who knew "Chuck" would say he was reliable, gregarious, dedicated, and true to his principles.

He was active in Sandusky Elks Lodge, Sandusky Yacht Club, F&AM Science Lodge #50, Singara Grotto, Sandusky Power Squadron, Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club, Peace River Sail and Power Squadron, Punta Gorda Boat Club, and Punta Gorda Elks Lodge #2606. His commitment and involvement to these organizations was exemplary, rising to Commodore of the Yacht Club, Rear Commander of the National Operations Training Committee for the Power Squadron, and Elks Hall of Fame for 50 years of service, just to mention a few. He also earned Senior Navigator status with the Power Squadron and earned 50 merit marks for years of service to the organization.

In addition, he officiated swimming at area high school, district, state, USA, and NCAA swimming meets in Ohio and nationally for 39 years. In 2001, he was inducted into Ohio High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame. He was the first swimming official ever to be nominated and inducted into the Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara; sons, Michael and Kevin; and grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Kristan, and Ashley.

Dear Barbara, family and friends of Chuck,
On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans, we offer our sincere condolences at Chuck´s passing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are always saddened whenever a fellow "Bubblehead" departs on Eternal Patrol. He served with honor on the USS Argonaut SS-475.
To our "Brother-of-the-Phin" we say, "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. Fair Winds and Following Seas." Thank you for your service to our country.
Barbara and family... "may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you." 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (ESV).

Such fond memories of this gentleman when our daughters swam. Everyone in this world should be as supportive as he was of others. May he rest in peace.
