Norwalk

Brian James Murray, 80, of Norwalk, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at his son's residence in Lewis Center, surrounded by his family.

He was born April 27, 1944, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Thomas and Virginia (Karl) Murray. He graduated from St. Aloysius High School in Newark, New Jersey, and then worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. His career began at Hyatt Roller Bearings in Harrison, New Jersey, and then moved to Milan, Ohio, in 1968, where he began working at New Departure and became the President of the UAW Local 913 Union. He then worked briefly for the Ohio Department of Transportation as an administrative assistant to the Governor of District 3. He also worked two years for the United States Senate. He enjoyed representing the union and was appointed to the International UAW CAP Council, retiring in 2004.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 626 in Norwalk and enjoyed spending time with his children and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to travel to casinos, gamble, and watch the History Channel.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lynda Murray; children, Laura (Craig) Scott of Norwalk, Kim (Kevin) Scott of Berlin Heights, and Brian (Rachel) Murray of Lewis Center; grandchildren, Karen, Chris, Greg, Kenny, Brianna, Kyle, Brendan, Hannah, Justin, Liam, and Braden; and six great-grandchildren; siblings, John (Karen) Murray of Melbourne, Florida and Eileen Murray of Melbourne, Florida; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Kenneth, Tommy, Patrick, Maggie, and Dennis.

A celebration of Brian's life will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. Private interment will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Tranquility Hospice, 1949 State Route 37 W., Suite C, Delaware, OH 43015.

I came to know Brian when they moved to Norwalk. I was their mailman. He would tell stories of my dad when they were in the UAW working together. Sweet man I was glad to know.
