Benjamin Truchon Obituary

Benjamin Lawrence "Larry" Truchon

Jan 3, 1940 - Apr 6, 2026

Norwalk

Benjamin "Larry" Lawrence Truchon passed away peacefully Monday, April 6, 2026, at Western Reserve Hospice following a recent fall. He was surrounded by the love of his family in his final days. Born January 3, 1940, in Cleveland, Larry lived a life defined by devotion to God, hard work, a generous spirit and an unwavering love for his family. A graduate of St. Paul High School, Larry served in the U.S. Army before beginning his career in road construction. He worked for Chapin & Chapin and later BOCA Construction, where he earned the distinction of being the company's first-ever retiree. At age 52, Larry met his wife of 35 years, Barb, after Mass, winning her over with a donut and coffee.

In his 86 years, Larry touched many lives. He was a fierce and loyal Ohio State fan, and he spent countless fall weekends at "The Shoe" and traveling to away games, cheering on his beloved Buckeyes with friends and family. He maintained a cherished tradition with his brother, "Copey," and wife, Becky (Punta Gorda, Florida), by calling to catch up every Sunday morning. Larry also loved his annual March trips to St. Maarten, fun family adventures, outings with friends and cheering on his grandkids at school and sporting events.

Everyone who knew Larry loved him. He was a soft-spoken, kind-hearted, gentle soul who never raised his voice or spoke an unkind word.

He was a man of faith, never missing weekly or daily 6:15 Mass after retirement. He took great pleasure in volunteering at St. Paul with the camaraderie of friends. Over the years, breakfast and coffee at Berry's and Star Diner became part of their weekly ritual. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Fisher-Titus Hospital and Stien Hospice for their compassionate care and support during his final journey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marge and Carl Copenhaver; his brother, Bill "Copey" Copenhaver; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Larry is survived by his wife, Barb and his stepchildren, Krista (Kevin) Kyle, Greg Wechter and Kevin (Mandy) Wechter; along with four grandchildren, Ian (Amber) Kyle, Lucas Kyle, Mazie Wechter and Addie Wechter.

Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories and say final farewells from 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2026, at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 West Main St., Norwalk. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2026, at St. Paul Catholic Church, with a Celebration of Life to follow at St. Paul Gathering Space. The family will have a private burial ceremony at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul Catholic Church in his memory.
