Anne "Ginny" Virginia Schauss, 83 years of age, and a longtime resident of Lorain, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Independence Village in Avon Lake.

She was born September 9, 1942, in Amherst. Anne lived in Amherst for five years before moving to Norwalk, where she resided for 14 years. She later moved to Muncie, Indiana, for four years, before returning to Lorain, where she made her home for more than 50 years.

Anne dedicated much of her working life to serving others, especially children and families. She was employed as a swim instructor at Murray Ridge School for 23 years, retiring in 2004. Earlier in her career, she worked in the administration office at Oberlin College for one year. She also shared her love of swimming as an instructor at Lorain Family YMCA for 10 years and at Elyria YMCA for two years.

A woman of deep faith and service, Anne was a devoted member of the Church of the Redeemer in Lorain and was actively involved with the Redeemer Guild. She was also a lifetime member of the VFW Amherst Auxiliary and a proud member of Amherst Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie No. 1442 Auxiliary and American Legion Post No. 118, both of Amherst. Additionally, she belonged to Italian American Veterans Club, Croatian Club, both in Lorain and Lorain Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Anne was an avid Cleveland sports fan and cherished the companionship of her beloved cats, Mittens, Puffy, Jazzy, Boots and her golden retriever Baron. She will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her generosity of spirit, and her lifelong commitment to her community.

She is survived by her son, Jonathan Harry Schauss (Heidi); her cherished grandchildren, Olivia Anne, Nicholaus James, and Nathan Lucas Schauss; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Anne Ruth (nee: Chambers); her siblings, John Plato Ruth and June Vidal; her nephew, Daniel H. Ruth in 2009 and her niece, Diane Dietche.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday February 5, 2026 at Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. Additional calling hours will begin at 10 a.m. until tme of funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Animal Protective League, 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
