Avon Lake

Alicia J. Schlegelmilch (nee Chaffee), 81, of Avon Lake and formerly of Norwalk, Huron, and Elyria, peacefully passed away after a lengthy battle with dementia Sunday, May 12, 2024.

She was born May 8, 1943, in Norwalk, to Leonard Chaffee and Pauline Kadow.

She was a longtime member of Church of the Open Door. Alicia lovingly displayed her servant's heart by always attending to the needs of others and taking care of her church families. She enjoyed tole painting and selling her artistry at craft shows with her loving husband. Her favorite activities included gardening, sewing, crocheting, cooking, and volunteering. Alicia was an excellent baker of Christmas cookies that she enjoyed sharing and had an eye for wedding cake design.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Richard; loving children, Cary (Bob) McCutchen and Richard II (Patti); cherished grandchildren, Donnie "DJ" (Aubrey) Valentine, Ben, Isaac, and Caleb; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Sophia; and dear siblings, Lynette Dailey (Roy) and Charlene Jordan.

Alicia was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Sandy (Bob) Copsey.

Alicia's celebration of life will be at a later date.
